Enviromental Benefits
Our Grass Based Beef Operation-
It is All fresh air and sunshine! Four Winds Natural Beef is raised used management intensive grazing. Cattle graze on ecologically rich grass and legume pastures, moving to a new pasture every few daus. Intense grazing and then a rest period optimizes grass growth, spreads fertility from the manure, and avoids the oovergrazing that is common on 'set stocked' pastures. The fresh grass is so tasty to the cows that they line up by the gate to be let in to the new pasture when they see us coming. Winter feed includes dull ratiuon of organic hay and corn. Keeping the cows outside on pasture is healthier and more comfortable for the cows than confining them to a barn. shelter is provided continuously for the cows by portavle 'pasturebarns', which they chose to use only in the case of sleet or cold rain. Ecologically Friendly! Four Winds Farm is a biologically diverse ecosystem that provides food for people and habitat for thousands of species. Over 84 species of virds nest in the native praire grasses on the ridge and in the hedgerows that surround the farm. Two ponds attract ducks and geese. Bluebird nest boxes cap our fence posts. If you want to eat in a way that supports biodiversity, our meats are for you. |
